Roitham
Roitham am Traunfall, Oberösterreich, Österreich
The lovely village of Roitham nestles among the northern outskirts of the glorious Salzkammergut Lake District.
Rich in history, our commune is dominated by the mighty Traun Waterfall. In the year 1834, two years before the railroad assumed operation, 21,000 tons of salt were transported from Gmunden down the Traun River. Woodturning items, grindstones, potteries, calcium sulphate and other goods all were transported across the Traun Fall channel until November 04, 1911 - this day our area´s 600 year old history of boating and transportation was drawn to a close.Visitors to Roitham are strongly recommended to take a walk along the new Traun Path to the Traun Fall, which truly is a natural sight to behold. Local must-sees also include the Parish Church, that is dedicated to Saint James the Greater, and the lovely Au Castle. The scenic surroundings are crisscrossed by great remote trails for walking and hiking. Cycling is another great way to experience the unique countryside as it gives you time to look at the picturesque scenery.
Highlights in the annual calendar of events are the Parish Fair on the Patron Saint´s feast and the village fair in July, the wine festival, the spring concerts given by the local brass band and the atmospheric Christmas market - making Roitham truly a great place for all seasons.
